MEET CLARK WHITTINGTON
Clark Whittington is the artist who started Art-O-Mat®, a project that gives retired cigarette machines a new purpose as dispensers of miniature artworks. He launched the idea in the mid-1990s in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to make art as easy and fun to grab as a snack from a vending machine.
Since then, Art-O-Mat® has grown into a worldwide movement with over 200 machines and hundreds of artists contributing. For just a few dollars, anyone can walk away with a tiny piece of art, while artists join the collective by creating works packaged to fit inside the machines.
Art-O-Mat® is more than a quirky vending concept. It is a playful and community-driven way to make art affordable, accessible, and full of surprise. It transforms ordinary moments into memorable creative discoveries.
